The Discomfort List

A list of actions that may make you considerably uncomfortable, but at least you will have experienced something eventually new.

Action IGive everyone your broadest smile. People we meet on the street often don’t smile much, and neither do we. It’s a bit sad, though. In the morning, on the way to work, you can desperately look for one, but there aren’t many. What if smiling at all these gloomy people could change things? Maybe it will brighten someone’s day, maybe just yours. Either way, it’s not bad.

Try to smile naturally, maybe push it a little, show your teeth to the world. Okay, maybe not every day, but at certain times. Try to think about it often and bring something positive to all those people you don’t know.

If everyone did it, imagine how much better it would make the world.

Action IIHow about working alone in a café? Well, this action isn’t too difficult. I’m including it in this list because it’s a lovely activity. You discover a new café, sit in a pretty corner near a flowering plant, and order an Americano with a cloud of cream. You open your computer and start writing. You make progress on your projects while sipping your coffee in a new, warm, and social environment. It couldn’t be better.
